Written Work By Alison Soldink

First time submitter Alison Soldink has sent us a really interesting piece titled Signifier, about the media’s reaction to the Steubenville case. Thanks Alison!

Signifier, signified

Crucifixion

Crucified

We note the notable as if it does not already exist.

We write

 the wrongs

to try and make them make sense.

(But that is impossible)

For most wrongs are permanent

(as they should be)

examples of the unrepeatable.

There is no room for apologies in the fight against complete

and utter

 ignorance.

“You’ve come a long way,

baby,” they say.

Then why the fuck are we still so angry?

(There is still so much further to go.)

Marginalized, demonized,

Anaesthetized.

(And this is what they call progress.)

Excusing the inexcusable

Pardoning the unpardonable

Blaming the blameless.

(Lamenting the despicable)

Not this time.
