Written submission by David Warner

David Warner described himself as a “first year journalism student at Ryerson who sometimes writes mediocre poetry.”

The first part of his statement is true, but his work is far from mediocre! We love this piece, it’s very relatable. Read “I’m home but I’m not home” below.

Fall reading week.

Conversations spurred, sporadic.

Fear Redding’s weep.

Invitations thin, erratic.

Places familiar, distant.

Anxieties.

Family dinners.

No time; slow time.

Missing faces,

different places.

The map shows distance.

My heart shows resistance.

An “X” on a calendar is all I have to go on.
